Rhode Island Drug Statistics Is Drug Abuse Unstoppable?

Drug abuse is something that is to be taken very seriously. It breaks up families, friends and even causes someone to lose their job, home and way of living. Many people do not fathom or even begin to understand the depth of a drug addiction and the impact that it has on communities although it can be seen every day on the news and in local papers. Rhode Island drug statistics also show a great rise in the number of drug abusers within the state. Some people say that drug abuse cannot be overcome and the truth is that it can, although it is difficult and challenging.

The high number of drug abusers in the state of Rhode Island are due to the Mexican drug trafficking cartels and other ethnic transport groups that work in rings throughout the state. The rings are very complex and go up many levels sometimes branching into other states and even countries where drug kingpins sit in their million dollar mansions and instruct the smaller dealers on what to do and where to bring the drugs. A large number of these drugs including cocaine, meth, heroin and marijuana have made their way into Rhode Island and wreaked havoc on the state.

The Mexican drug cartels often get their drugs from other states, Mexico and Canada before they are transported into Rhode Island through complex roadways, airplanes and boats. The destruction comes when the drugs are sold to low level gang members who sell the drugs for retail prices on the residential streets of Rhode Island. Often times, the drug dealers will fight in the streets for drug selling territories and innocent people get caught in the middle of gun battles that take place as a result. Many young children are most often the victims of these drug street battles which leaves the parents devastated. Local and state police constantly fight the drug battle in Rhode Island by busting large drug operating rings and taking down known drug traffickers.

Rhode Island drug statistics show that even though there have been drug reducing efforts from local and state police, the numbers do not seem to be improving and in fact, they are growing with every year that passes. Communities start to get the impression that drugs are unstoppable and they lose all hope that there will ever be a solution to the constantly growing drug problem in the state.

Drug addiction can cause a person to change completely and lose all focus on ever having a real life without the drugs. The drug abuser becomes lost in their own reality, the drug reality. This reality is driven by the mere addiction and the need to have more and more drugs. Soon, the family, friends and any one else in their life starts to fade away out of their existence and all they know are the drugs.

Different drugs have different effects on a persons mental and physical state although, most often they share some common addictive traits. Meth and cocaine for instance are known to make the abuser very violent and cruel when they are trying to obtain the drugs and when they are coming down from a high off of them. This is because these drugs are highly addictive mentally and also physically addicting which causes physical withdraws like shaking, anxiety, craving, sweating, headaches and insomnia when the drug is not used. Violence is more common with the crack form of cocaine although meth is linked to violence any way it is used whether smoked, snorted or injected by needle.

Rhode Island drug statistics show a high rate of meth and crack related deaths in the state. This is both with overdose deaths and also murder/ homicide. Family violence and robberies are also very commonly associated with meth and crack. Marijuana on the other hand is a more laid back drug that causes the abuser to be very relaxed, and even lazy. Marijuana is rarely ever associated with violence except in the case of the marijuana farmer trying to protect their crops. Mexican farmers have been know to open fire on police as they try to raid a marijuana farm. Although, most cultivation sites occur indoors in Rhode Island due to harsh weather conditions.

One major crutch that still stands is the fact that many people think of drug abuse as being unstoppable. Drug abuse is stoppable although, it takes one step at a time working from the bottom up and requires a community effort in order to be successful. The first issue that needs to be resolved with drug abuse is that the source of the drugs needs to be wiped out or at least lessened. This would stop the flow of drugs and perhaps help to lower the amount of drug abuse with it because if they dont know where to obtain the drugs then chances are they wont obtain them at all. The second issue is the lack of awareness in the communities. Communities need to be aware of the drugs that are present as well as the dangers they present. Lastly, the drug abusers need a safe and secure place where they can go and be able to trust people that will help them get off the drugs.

There are in fact drug treatment centers located in the state of Rhode Island although, many people do not know that they are there or they are too scared to admit that they are addicted to drugs. Sometimes drug abusers need an intervention in order for them to seek drug treatment help. This is where it is important for the family and loved ones to step in and help the drug abuser.

Drug treatment centers provide services to drug abusers in order to help them live a drug free life. They are designed to give support from dedicated staff and professionals so the drug abuser does not feel alone during their recovery. If you or your loved one is addicted to drugs, you can have confidence in a drug treatment center. There is even a very good chance that you could get off the drugs and live the rest of your life as a more productive and happier individual.
