Nebraska Drug Statistics Recognizing Drug Addiction

When someone is addicted to drugs, it is very similar to a great plague. The drugs come and they sweep through the nation destroying everything and leaving nothing, but devastation behind. It does not matter where the person lives either because drug addiction can strike anywhere and at anytime. While it is usually true that the greater the city, state and population, the more drug abuse and presence; it is still often seen in the smaller cities and states as well. Nebraska drug statistics show that even though the state is far less populated than any other city in the nation, it still faces a very major threat from drugs and resident drug abuse.

One major drug problem of the state in particular is that of meth. In fact, statistics show that the state of Nebraska sits in fifth place for the amount of meth production per capita out of the entire nation. These are some serious numbers that not only affect the residents who use the meth, but also the communities that they live in. These drug statistics further show that meth has a presence in nearly every city in the state and has a very high amount of users being admitted to drug treatment centers as well.

There are other drugs like heroin, marijuana, cocaine and prescription pills present in the state of Nebraska as well. These drugs are not widely used but still have increasing statistics and are considered rising threats to law enforcement in the state. The drugs are most often transported into the state by Mexican or other Hispanic drug trafficking organizations. Many times, Nebraska serves as a transportation hub into other areas in the country. The majority of the drugs that come here though, wind up in the hands of the residents which increases the resident drug abuse.

While Nebraska drug statistics are high, this does not mean that the war on drugs is lost. There are some things that can be done to help decrease these numbers. When a person is found to have a drug addiction, they need all the support that they can receive. It is best that the family and friends try to be there for them during their struggle even if they do not understand what it is about. Without the support, a drug abuser can feel lost and not have hope to press on and go through recovery.

Furthermore, awareness is very important when it comes to drugs and the abuse of drugs. Communities must be aware of drug presence and people must know when their loved ones are abusing drugs. Awareness can start in the home with the youth and this is actually a very good place to start. The youth are perhaps the most unaware residents of our time. They are new to drugs and dont realize how dangerous they are. Some teens think that using drugs is cool or hip. Others feel that there is nothing wrong with using drugs or that nothing is going to happen to them because they are different.

The youth are our future and they will lead the next generation whether it be to victory of the drug war or further destruction. They need to know that they are misinformed about drugs and that drugs can take lives even theirs. It is the parents responsibility to talk to their kids about the dangers of drugs and tell them that drugs bring death and devastation not fun and good times as they think. Many teens die each year from drug overdose because their parents did not talk to them about the risks. It is an unfortunate scene that happens all too often when the parent walks into the childs room to find them laying in their bed asleep forever. Sadly for those kids it is too late, they will never wake up. However, it is not too late for you to wake up and see the destruction around you so that you can attempt to do something about it. The Nebraska drug statistics will not change on their own.

If you are unsure if your loved one has a problem with drugs or not, there are some signs that you can see in them. You do not have to wait for your loved one to approach you nor should you wait because the earlier they get help, the better off they will be. Drug addiction signs are mostly general and an addiction is an addiction so while some drugs use will exhibit stronger signs, they will all have the same following traits: very little sleep or too much sleep when the drugs are not present in the system, loss of job, constant mood changes, lack of money to pay bills, always looking for something they cannot find, theft, hermit like behavior or withdrawing from family and loved ones, not eating, lying, stealing from loved ones, constantly coming up with excuses, violent or rebellious behavior, depression and anxiety, loss of weight and marks, bruises or scabs on their body.

If you know someone that has these behaviors or physical signs, then it is likely that they are abusing drugs. The longer someone abuses drugs, the harder it is to get them loose from the drugs grips. This is why you should seek help right away for your loved one. Drug treatment centers provide treatment programs that can help your loved one get clean for the long haul. If your loved one does not admit or feel that they have a drug addiction, an intervention may be in order. This is where the drug abuser is forced by family, loved ones and friends to face their addiction head on and admit themselves for drug treatment. Sometimes an intervention is needed to make the person realize that the drug addiction is out of control and that there is no other way but to receive help for their addiction.

Drug treatment centers in Nebraska see many people every year and they provide people with the chance to live again. The staff teach the drug abuser how to relate to society and deal with everyday life once more free from drugs. It is important to you that your loved one gets clean, it is important to the community and it is important to the one abusing the drugs.
