Drug Addiction and Abuse in Colorado

Substance abuse is very prominent in the United States, and the state of Colorado is no exception. There are many kinds of drugs available, which are easy to obtain. Drugs such as methamphetamines, (also known as meth) cocaine, heroin and marijuana are transported via many channels from Mexico, but club drugs are also imported from Canada. Texas and California are also involved in the trafficking of drugs into Colorado.

Among the most used substances is marijuana. Even though there is a bulk of marijuana distributed from Mexico there is higher potency form called BC bud, which is distributed from British Columbia, the Pacific Northwest, and Canada. There are still many indoor operations however and they are found on a regular basis by law enforcement agencies throughout the state. In 2001 Colorado residents voted to pass a law allowing small amounts of marijuana for people dying of cancer or catastrophic illnesses, which resulted in many of the home grown marijuana operations.

Other drugs used in the state of Colorado include cocaine, heroin, meth and club drugs. The most common of the club drugs include gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) which is a common date rape drug, and LSD. Among other drug uses pharmaceuticals are also very common. Oxycodone, vicodin, and oxycontin are the most common in the state of Colorado. These drugs are most commonly procured through the internet, and prescription forgery. These drugs are also among the most commonly abused by medical professionals.

Substance abuse literally takes over a person’s life. Their every motivation is to acquire drugs, and unfortunately this results in prostitution, pornography and violence in order to gain access to the drug or drugs of choice for the addict. These crimes as well as others are sadly directly related to drug abuse, sales and distribution. Unfortunately addicts do not know where to turn, and what happens instead the cycle of addiction remains unbroken.
