The use of Methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and marijuana pose a huge problem to the citizens of this state. This is an on going drug war that seems nearly impossible to put an end to. Cocaine is readily available throughout all part of the state. Crack cocaine is increasingly in availability throughout the state. Cocaine in South Dakota is normally in high purity and high value to many cocaine abusers. Heroin is available throughout the state but is limited in availability in some part of the state. Black tar heroin is most commonly found in the state. Meth has become more and more popular over the past few years. The availability of meth has increased at a phenomenal rate. Small meth labs are mainly to blame for the huge meth threat throughout the state. Some meth being brought in from the state is from Mexico. Club Drugs are readily accessible throughout the state of South Dakota. MDMA (ecstasy) is most commonly found on western parts of the state, where most of the raves are at. Club drugs are mainly abused at nightclubs, raves, and on college campuses. With the college scene growing more and more club drugs are being abused. Marijuana is also readily available throughout the state. Marijuana still remains to be the biggest drug threat in South Dakota. Large amounts of marijuana are shipped in from Mexico, and distributed by local Hispanic drug organizations. |
