Drug Abuse and Addiction in IowaDrug addiction is a serious disease that is extremely hard to get rid of. The fact is that drug addiction and abuse is all over the world, there is no escaping it. Here in Iowa, there are two main drugs of choice, meth smuggled in from Mexico and locally made meth is most popular in Iowa. Cocaine is another well-liked drug in suburban areas of Iowa. Cocaine is the most readily available drug besides meth in the state of Iowa. Much of the cocaine distributed in Iowa is sold as crack cocaine on the streets. Crack cocaine is a very dangerous drug to abuse, and causes many violent crimes. Heroin is another drug that causes many problems, brought in from Mexico, Mexican heroin is popular in many suburban areas of Iowa. Methamphetamine creates the biggest drug problem in Iowa. A majority of the meth brought into Iowa is from Hispanic decent. Meth is equally used by male and females throughout the state, its near 50/50 of incoming addicts into treatment centers in Iowa. Club Drugs which was once unknown in Iowa, is now increasingly yearly. Drugs such as MDMA and GHB are abused throughout the state by many college and teenaged students. Marijuana is mostly available throughout eastern and northwestern Iowa, usually in combination with cocaine and methamphetamine. A large portion of the marijuana in Iowa is imported through the southwest border. |
